Books that Give is back!
There’s never a bad time to buy books, but this week is the best moment in all the year to pick...
We're delighted to announce that Bookshop.org has chosen Bookbanks for its Books That Give drive for the third year running. Between 22 and 25 October, Bookshop.org will donate 10% of any and all book sales to Bookbanks.
So if you've got a birthday present, a book club pick or a pile of Christmas shopping in mind, now's the perfect time to buy it.
Bookshop.org supports independent bookshops with every sale, so each book you buy during the drive helps two good causes at once: your local indie bookshop and Bookbanks.
This campaign comes at an especially exciting moment for us. At the start of next month, Bookbanks opens in three new locations:
Bookbanks New Cross, widening our reach across London
Bookbanks Canterbury, our first step into the South East
Bookbanks Newcastle, bringing Bookbanks to the North East for the first time!
Setting up in a whole new region costs around £20,000. That covers recruiting and training a local Bookbanks Lead, building relationships with book and food bank partners, training volunteer teams, sourcing and delivering thousands of books and much more.
Your support for Books that Give makes a real difference to how far and how fast we can grow in order to reach our goal of 30 food banks across the UK by 2030.
Author, TV presenter and Bookbanks supporter Vick Hope says:
"Books can inspire confidence, spark curiosity and help people dream big, whatever their own story. As someone who's incredibly proud to be from the North East, it's brilliant to see Bookbanks coming to the region, giving people using food banks access to free books. Everyone deserves the chance to fall in love with reading, and I know from my own experience just how life-changing that can be."
Our founder, Emily Rhodes, explains:
"To have this support from Bookshop.org for the third year running is a huge honour. The Books That Give drive has already made such a difference to the number of struggling families we are able to reach… this new drive will make a real difference to our ability to expand, reaching more of the many communities who would benefit from the transformative power of books."
And if you need more encouragement Nicole Vanderbilt, Managing Director of Bookshop.org UK, adds:
"This feels especially important in the National Year of Reading… We hope that through our fundraising efforts they will have the means to grow even further, expanding their activities in Newcastle, widening access to books to those who can't afford them."
Three ways you can help
Buy a book (or several!) from Bookshop.org between 22 and 25 October.
Spread the word. Forward this to friends, family and fellow book lovers, and share the campaign on social media.

Thank you, as always, for helping us change stories, one book at a time.
